Remember that you are dust

February 15, 2013

‘Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return. Turn away from sin and be faithful to Christ.’

With these words we are marked with the sign of the Cross on Ash Wednesday as we begin the journey of Lent.

Listen also to these words:

We are star dust

In the highest exalted way

Called by the universe

Reaching out into the universe

We are part of the universe

We are in this universe

The universe is in us

David, Interesting coalescence…or is it juxtaposition? Thought-provoking! Thank you.

      I think it is both.
I had seen this video before and was thinking of it during the sermon on Ash Wednesday. What is this dust that we come from and return to? It is not inert stuff – it is the very essence of creation itself, that has existed since the moment of creation. So to say we return to dust is to say we return to the creative stuff of the universe itself! How wonderful is that!
So it is coalescence. But there is also distance in the points of view which makes it juxtaposition.
